Hospital pressure due to the Covid-19 epidemic continues its slow decline this Saturday, including in critical care services.
But it is still strong and the number of deaths still high, according to the latest official figures.
French hospitals are currently welcoming 31,522 Covid-positive patients (including 1,329 who arrived in 24 hours), down from Friday (31,939) and last week (32,867).
Daily hospital admissions fell 24% in one week.
The decline also continues timidly in the critical care services which treat the most serious cases, in particular in intensive care, with 3,324 patients, against 3,371 the day before and 3,606 last Saturday.
With 156 new patients treated in 24 hours, daily admissions to these units fell by 21% in one week.
Falling incidence rate
Now largely dominant, the Omicron variant causes less severe forms of Covid, which results in shorter hospital stays and a lower risk of going to intensive care.
But deaths, up sharply since November, remain at a high level, mainly among unvaccinated and immunocompromised: 161 people were killed by the disease in 24 hours, and 269 the day before.
In total, since the start of the epidemic just under two years ago, the Covid has killed 134,697 people.
The incidence rate decreases by 40% over one week.
Such a sharp drop has hardly ever happened since the start of the pandemic.
The positivity rate is also still at an all-time high, but it is falling for the tenth day in a row.

In addition, since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 54,139,782 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 80.3% of the total population1) and 53,038,115 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 78. 7% of the total population).
Some 37,681,481 people received a booster dose.
The government estimated on Wednesday that there were “reasons to hope” that “at the end of March at the beginning of April we can lift the vaccination pass”, due to the improvement in the health situation.
