Cooking pasta is not difficult.

However, mistakes can be made when pouring.

Germany - You usually learn how to cook pasta as a child.

No wonder: preparing pasta dishes is one of the simplest things in the kitchen.

And yet mistakes happen all the time.

For example when draining the pasta in the colander in the sink.

A simple life hack can help here, reports RUHR24.

Cooking pasta: Never put the colander in the sink to drain

Whether with sauce, pesto, cheese or vegetables: pasta is one of the most popular dishes of all.

They can be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen and are very popular, not just with children, because they are easy to prepare and taste great.

To get the noodles out of the saucepan and pour off the hot water, most people use what is called a noodle colander.

It is made of plastic or metal and often only costs a few euros in standard shops.

In addition to pasta, you can also use it to drain potatoes or vegetables.

Trouble with the colander in the sink: pasta ends up in the drain

As a rule, you put the sieve in the sink and then empty the pot.

Noodles or potatoes end up in the sieve and the water in the drain.

The food can then be further processed as desired.

That's the theory - because unfortunately the practice often looks very different: either the cooked food doesn't fit in the sieve or individual pasta and potatoes end up in the sink.

Easier to drain pasta after cooking: Lifehack for the kitchen helps hobby cooks

To avoid the hassle, there is a simple trick that consumers can use to drain the food much more easily in the future:

Instead of pouring the cooked pasta or potatoes into the colander in the sink, you can simply place the colander in the pot.

All you need is a sieve that has the same diameter as the pot.

And off we go!

  • Once the noodles are done (as an example), simply take the colander and place it in the pot with its opening facing up.

  • The sieve must be held in place so that the edges of the pot are covered.

Otherwise the food will fall out.

  • The water can then be poured off as usual.

Put the colander in the pot instead of the sink: many advantages thanks to this tactic

The tactic described has several advantages: If done correctly, no more noodles end up in the drain.

In addition, the food stays in the pot and therefore nice and hot.

Food usually cools down fairly quickly in the colander and may have to be reheated.

That takes time and effort.

In addition, the noodles can be processed directly in the pot: For example, if you are planning a pasta dish with sauce or want to cook a so-called "one-pot-pasta" - a dish that consists of several ingredients, but only one pot is prepared.

Pasta is one of the most popular foods ever.

However, caution should be exercised during further processing.

Pasta water is a valuable tool in the kitchen and at home

By the way: Throwing away the pasta water is not as sensible as you might think.

Because the starchy water can be processed extremely well for various purposes.

For example when rinsing: The starch in the liquid is ideal as a cleaning agent.

However, it should be well cooled before use.

This makes the consistency firmer, similar to jelly.

The pasta water is also suitable as a hair treatment or fertilizer for plants as well as for the preparation of delicious sauces, pesto or dips.

The starch in the water makes them nice and creamy.

Enjoy your meal!
