Born in Rio de Janeiro on December 12, 1940, Arnaldo Jabor was part of the “Cinema Novo” (new cinema) movement, the new wave of Brazilian cinema, which began in the 1960s. He notably directed the iconic actress Sonia Braga in
Je t'aime
, presented at the Cannes Film Festival in the "Un certain regard" category, in 1981.
Arnaldo Jabor also saw two of his feature films enter the official selection at Cannes,
Pindorama
, in 1971, and
Parle moi d'amour
, for which Fernanda Torres received the prize for female interpretation, in 1986. Her film

, inspired by a famous play by playwright Nelson Rodrigues, won the Silver Bear at the Berlin festival in 1973.
Arnaldo Jabor was also known in Brazil for his acerbic columnist skills on television, on TV Globo, or in the columns of the daily
