Texas sues Meta accusing her of violating the state's privacy rules with the use of its now abandoned facial recognition technology.
The Wall Street Journal reports it.
In the lawsuit, prosecutor Ken Paxton is asking for billions of dollars in penalties for Meta, which captured the facial geometry of photos uploaded by users from 2010 to last year in what are "tens of millions of violations".
"Facebook has secretly collected Texans' most personal information - photos and videos - for its own profit. Texas law prohibits this type of collection without consent for anyone aged 20 and over. While Texans have used Facebook to share in innocently about their photos, we know Facebook has blatantly ignored the law for the past decade, ”says Paxton.
