All over the world people are alert to the emergence of new corona symptoms identified with the omicron, or God forbid with a new strain waiting around the corner.

In the case of the Omicron variant, the disease it causes is considered mild in most cases with cold-like symptoms and no more.

But in one case that was recently exposed it led to a very strange effect that women, and especially breastfeeding women - need to be aware of.

Nicki Jokrutz is the CEO of an Australian parenting organization called Tiny Hearts Education and a mother herself, and she posted a picture on her Instagram account that shocked surfers. .

"It may seem a little repulsive, but this amazing change in the color of milk is actually the antibodies inside this mother's milk - that do their part! And do it well!", Jocrutz wrote on Instagram.

"When we breastfeed, our body does something similar to a full and continuous body scan - ours and our baby's, to produce the optimal and best milk for the little one's health and also to help him recover quickly from diseases. It's pretty crazy when you think about it!"

Breast milk is often referred to as "liquid gold" due to its amazing ability to adapt its components to the exact needs of the breastfed baby.

The person who shared the original photo is a woman named Ashmiri, a mother of two.

In the photo, she photographed two bags of pumped breast milk standing side by side - one of them was pumped before being infected with the virus and the color of the milk in which it is normal (yellowish white) and the other contains greenish milk, which Ashmiri pumped after she and her family contracted corona.

The magic milk

Ashmiri was amazed at the change in the color of the milk, but she says she was not frightened because she realized that it was an expression of the changes in the composition of the milk that her body made, to help her toddler daughter Ruby cope with the disease.

"I really wanted to share this picture of my milk. Because that's how it actually shows me that something's going on in my body and my baby's body. How amazing is breast milk? It's really magical! I'm grateful I can breastfeed, especially now. The color change indicates "So my body has made exactly the changes that Ruby needs - antibodies, more fat and just plain good."

Ashmiri also said that her little daughter was not the only one who drank the greenish breast milk, the rest of the infected family also drank from it and even herself.

"I felt unwell and I was tired and tired of it, so I said to myself 'I'm going to drink some of this milk,' and so I did. I do not know if it helped or not, who knows?", She said.

Breast milk can change color not only in response to corona, but also in response to other viruses or certain foods and beverages (in any case where you have doubts about the quality or color of the milk, consult a lactation consultant or doctor).

"Usually, when breast milk changes color to green it is due to eating green vegetables, foods with green food coloring or following consumption of certain vitamins or herbs. It is completely safe to let the baby drink it, there is no need to pour it for drainage or throw it away," she wrote. One of the respondents to the post, who testified that she is a breastfeeding consultant.

One hypothesis is that the discoloration of breast milk occurs as a result of an increase in immune components called immunoglobulins, white blood cells and leukocytes - all cell types that help fight infections.

A study published in 2013 found that when a baby is breastfed, the amount of leukocytes in the milk that his mother produces jumps sharply.
