After the birth of your child, parents can compensate for the missing income with parental allowance.

With the parental allowance, mothers and fathers can secure financial support from the state* after the birth of the child to compensate for losses in earned income.

Good to know: Parental allowance can only be applied for after the birth of the child.

At present, however, the application still has to be printed out after it has been filled out and sent in paper form to the responsible parental allowance office.

What additional evidence is required for the parental allowance application?

Depending on the federal state and personal circumstances, parents must enclose additional evidence and documents with the parental allowance application.

You can usually find out what these are in the main application form for parental allowance in your federal state.

As a rule, the following documents are required

:

• Completed application form (signed by both parents)

• Child's original birth certificate or birth certificate

• Copies of the identity cards of both parents or a copy of the passport with residence permit and registration certificate

• last income statement of both parents

Additional evidence for employees

:

• For mothers: wage and salary slips for the last 12 months before the month in which maternity leave begins.

• For fathers: wage and salary slips for the last 12 months before the month of birth.

• Certificate from the health insurance company that you are receiving maternity benefit after the birth

• Employer's certificate of subsidy to maternity benefit after the birth

• In the case of part-time work during parental leave: confirmation of working hours by the employer

Parents may have to fill out additional forms and send them to the parental allowance office.
