What can you store in the fridge and at what temperature?

The online electronics retailer AO conducted a survey: Half of Germans set the refrigerator incorrectly.
In a representative survey, the online electronics retailer
AO.de
asked 2,000 people in Germany about their storage habits.
The focus of the survey was sometimes the
temperature of the refrigerator
.
While 31 percent of those surveyed had it set
too warm
, 25 percent said the fridge temperature was
too cold
.
In addition, 18 percent admitted that they had no idea what the temperature of their fridge was.

The survey conducted revealed that 37 percent of the subjects had not set their freezer compartment cold enough.
Because the average temperature was -16.2 degrees Celsius.
What foods should be kept in the refrigerator?

Note that beef can be stored for about three to four days before consumption, while veal and pork have a shelf life of two to three days in the refrigerator.
Poultry can only be kept in the refrigerator for a day or at most two days before consumption.

also do not belong in the fridge, but on the shelf or in the kitchen cupboard.

are also not suitable for the refrigerator.

Consequently, it is quite relevant which food you keep in which compartment of your refrigerator.

top compartment
of the fridge, like the
fridge door

cold when optimally set, the temperature in the
middle compartment

five degrees
.

bottom compartment
reaches a maximum temperature of

.
In the upper compartment you can store butter, jam, cheese and sausage, for example, while yoghurt, milk, quark, cream and cream cheese feel most comfortable in the middle compartment.
Eggs and drinks belong in the refrigerator door, and meat, fish, vegetables and fruit in the bottom compartment.
The survey conducted by AO.de also revealed that, in addition to food, Germans also keep
cosmetic
products such as creams, nail polish, eyeliner or even lipstick in the fridge.
Some also store flowers, batteries, candles and pillowcases in the fridge.
