The cybersecurity market in Italy is growing - 1.55 billion euros, + 13% compared to 2020 - but the ratio between security spending and GDP remains limited (0.08%), in last place among the G7 countries.

These are some of the research results of the Cybersecurity & Data Protection Observatory of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano, presented at the conference 'Cybersecurity: don't look up'.

The survey captures a constant growth in threats: 1053 serious incidents in the first half of 2021, + 15% compared to the first half of 2020, (according to Clusit data), as many as 31% of large Italian companies report a further increase in cyber attacks in the last year, which is added to that encountered in the first months of the emergency.

A real "cyber war" with 60% of large Italian companies increased the budget for cybersecurity in 2021, 54% of organizations deem it necessary to strengthen staff awareness initiatives on the behaviors to be adopted, while 46 % has a Chief Information Security Officer (Ciso) for IT security.

"With the continuation of the health emergency, awareness of the importance of cybersecurity is consolidating, not only in larger organizations, but also in less structured ones - says Gabriele Faggioli, Scientific Director of the Cybersecurity & Data Protection Observatory -. The market has started to run again, more and more companies have adopted technologies and revised processes to increase security in the face of growing threats. organizations with the birth of the new National Cybersecurity Agency ".
