(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 16 - The west of the United States was experiencing the worst drought since 800 AD, since the times of the Vikings and the Maya, which has seen especially in California lakes, reservoirs and rivers drop to historic lows.
Lorivela a study published in the journal Nature Climate Changebased on data from tree rings and wooden beams preserved in Native American archaeological sites.
It is, explains the study, a drought that lasts 22 years, the longest and most severe period in 1200 years.
The last time such a phenomenon had occurred it was 1500 but it had not been so serious.
