A new and preliminary study provides a precedent-setting explanation for the many symptoms that are discovered in corona virus recoverers who continue to suffer after their recovery from long-cob or in Hebrew - long-term corona.

Although further confirmations are needed, according to researchers from the German University Hospital in Spain (Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital), it can be said that the most significant cause of all the long-term corona symptoms has been found.

The researchers, whose study will be published this April at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, have identified that the corona virus affects one of the most significant and important nerves in the body: the vagus nerve.

The vagus nerve begins in the brain and descends into the body as it affects the activity of the heart, lungs, diaphragm, digestive system, sweating, reflexes related to eating and even speech.

The researchers were therefore not surprised to find that the corona virus affected the same nerve and caused it to change in many of the recoverers who suffered from long cobid.

The researchers sorted out all the symptoms that could result from injury or inflammation in the nerve and came up with the following line of symptoms: voice problems, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, high heart rate, low blood pressure and difficulty breathing.

They subsequently examined 348 people with long corona symptoms and identified that 66% of cases had one or more symptoms suggestive of vagus nerve damage.

Although the study has not yet been published and has not been peer-reviewed, Dr David Strain of the British University of Exeter was not surprised by the findings and said that "the study again proves to us that the corona virus damages the nervous system and can explain its long-term damage." This is also a treatable finding and noted that "establishing the understanding that the injury is to the vagus nerve may be helpful because there are known though imperfect treatments that can alleviate and repair some of the damage."
