At the Corona summit, the federal and state governments agreed to relax the pandemic rules.

However, some rules will remain in place - even in supermarkets.

Munich – Studies confirm that the omicron mutation of the coronavirus is more contagious, but overall has a milder course of the disease than, for example, the delta variant.

Despite the high number of new infections and the resulting increase in nationwide incidence, there was no feared overloading of the clinics or the health system.

According to the Federal Government’s Corona Expert Council, the wave has peaked and is expected to flatten out in the next few weeks.

At the Corona summit between the federal and state governments, these facts were the reason for adjustments to the current situation.

Far-reaching easing was agreed in a three-stage plan, according to which “all more far-reaching protective measures” are to be lifted on March 20.

However, some rules should remain in place.

What is the situation in supermarkets and discounters now?

Corona summit sets three-stage plan for easing - no controls in retail from now on

The three-stage plan of the Prime Ministers' Conference (MPK) already provides for some changes with immediate effect.

Retail is also addressed in the summit decision.

"Unless already planned or implemented, the previously frequently applied restriction of access in retail will no longer apply," explains the document.

Access to retail should be possible nationwide for everyone without any controls.

However, shops for daily needs were already exempt from the restrictions that have been lifted with the latest Corona summit, which have been in effect since December.

In addition to pharmacies and petrol stations, this category primarily includes supermarkets and discounters.

Here, everyday shopping was possible for everyone anyway, including those who had not been vaccinated.

The supermarkets themselves also objected to the introduction of the 2G or 3G rule and stated that they had no plans for such access restrictions in their branches.

Corona summit is now loosening for retail trade - but basic protective measures still apply

However, the omission of the controls should not be misunderstood as a complete lifting of the Corona rules in retail.

At the same time, the MPK decision emphasizes: “In order to take into account the still high risk of infection indoors, medical masks must be worn in any case.

The use of FFP2 masks is recommended unless required by state law.” A mask must therefore still be put on.

In general, the federal and state governments agreed on “low-threshold basic protection measures” after March 20th.

The detailed information also results in regulations for closed rooms such as supermarkets and discounters.

With these measures, the decision again refers to wearing a mask.

In addition, the distance requirement and general hygiene requirements must continue to be observed in line with these basic rules.

Despite the lifted controls, when shopping every day, the following applies: mask on, keep your distance, pay attention to hygiene.
