Mexican criminologist
Mónica Ramírez
held long sessions with
Joaquín
El Chapo
Guzmán
before he was extradited to the United States in 2017 in order to carry out his psychological profile and, based on the conclusions, create national security strategies.
In an interview with Hoy Día, Ramírez tells some secrets from his talks with the Mexican capo and reveals what, in his opinion, is behind the criminal mind of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
"I had to work with a
Chapo
who already wanted to retire, who was already tired of running," he explains.

In addition to
El Chapo
, the criminologist interviewed dangerous criminals such as Dámaso López, nicknamed
El Licenciado
,
who was considered Loera's successor at the head of the Sinaloa Cartel and became a key element in the arrest of Emma Coronel, and Miguel Treviño alias
Z40
, the top leader of the Los Zetas Cartel.
According to his account, the conversations he had with the alleged criminals used to be
“like having a coffee”
.
"That's my job.
What people see as monsters, I have to see as a human being, to be able to make a psychological profile”, he assures.
However, he adds that, based on his experience, Guzmán Loera has "totally" the profile of a criminal, in addition to being a person with
"very marked"
narcissistic and psychopathic traits .
He also recalled that in another of his conversations with Guzmán Loera, the Mexican capo confessed his
fear of the dark
and his feelings towards his daughter and his wife, Emma Coronel.

El Chapo
was famous after escaping from prison twice in Mexico, the second time through an open tunnel in the bathroom of his cell.
He was captured again and in 2017 he was extradited to the US.
At that time, Mónica Ramírez was an official of the Security Commission of the Mexican Government and remembers one of her meetings with
El Chapo
in the Altiplano prison.
“He tells me: 'Authorities have already come to explain to me about the extradition.
It seems that I have no direct imputations.
So, apparently doing the math, well, I think they would throw me between eight or ten years in prison at the most, ”he added.
