Tesla founder Elon Musk compared Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Adolf Hitler for his actions against the ongoing blockades of truck drivers.
Musk posted a picture of the dictator on Twitter on Thursday, captioned it with the caption, "Stop comparing me to Justin Trudeau."
The entry was later deleted.
Musk had previously expressed support for the truckers who have been causing chaos in the Canadian capital Ottawa and at several border crossings to the United States in protest of Trudeau's corona policy for weeks.
Musk's Twitter post was in response to a report that Canadian authorities have asked financial institutions to ban crypto transactions in support of the protesters.
The actions of the truck drivers had started in protest against the vaccination requirement at border crossings, which had been introduced by Canada and the USA in mid-January.
The demonstrations are now generally directed against the corona rules and the government of Prime Minister Trudeau.
"He must apologize immediately."
On Monday, the head of government invoked emergency powers to take action against the protest convoys.
This gives the authorities more legal powers to arrest protesters, confiscate their trucks and cut off funding for the protests.
On Thursday, Ottawa police prepared to clear the Parliament District.
The organization American Jewish Committee (AJC) sharply criticized Musk's Hitler comparison and described Musk's statements as "Holocaust relativization".
The entrepreneur had shown "extremely poor judgement".
"He must apologize immediately."
