A customer of Aldi Süd writes a juicy complaint on Facebook.

Apparently he was turned away at the checkout because of a small detail.

The discounter explains:

Karlsruhe – This has certainly happened to every customer of Aldi* and Co.: You handed in your returnable bottles before you went shopping, but when you got to the checkout after walking through the shelves, you forgot to put the little note on the belt.

It is not uncommon for the deposit receipt to stay in your wallet for months – until you start wondering whether the deposit slip is still valid.

A customer of Aldi Süd from Karlsruhe (Baden-Württemberg*) just had such an old Pfanbon – and decided to try his luck at the checkout.

But there he was obviously not rejected in a friendly manner.

After an Aldi Süd employee also accused him of fraud, the customer wrote a complaint on the retail giant's Facebook community.

HEIDELBERG24* reveals how the discounter itself reacted:

Aldi Süd: Customer is rejected at checkout – because of deposit receipt theft?

When it comes to deposit vouchers, not only Aldi Süd employees have to be careful.

In their daily work, employees of large supermarkets and discounters always have to be prepared for fraudsters trying to gain an advantage when shopping.

There are now many well-known and particularly brazen deposit fraud schemes*, with which criminals can quickly make thousands of euros out of 25 cents per bottle or can.

The Aldi Süd customer from Karlsruhe was confronted with a similar accusation.

Because when he tried to redeem an old pawn ticket worth around 3 euros in the branch, as he reports on Facebook, he was turned away at the checkout.

"Apparently he was too old and I didn't really care about the three euros," the Aldi customer begins his complaint.

"Even if you could have paid this out to a long-standing customer as a gesture of goodwill." The real annoyance for the Facebook user is the reason given by the Aldi employee for not paying him the deposit.

Aldi Süd: Employees with a deposit receipt – discounter apologizes

As the customer from Aldi Süd further reports on Facebook, he was brazenly "processed" at the checkout.

"I find it absolutely cheeky with the sentence that could be stolen and simply throwing the receipt in the trash," he complains to the retail giant's social media team.

The experienced community managers at Aldi Süd are very familiar with angry customer complaints * and should have quickly noticed that there is a need for some explanation in this case.

The same “civil law limitation period” applies to deposit vouchers as to vouchers.

As stipulated in the Civil Code, this period expires after three years.

As HEIDELBERG24* already reported, the deadline for deposit vouchers*, which only contain smaller, single-digit amounts, is usually extended a little.

Aldi community manager Irek also explains the complaint to the Karlsruhe customer about the statute of limitations for deposit receipts and explains further: "A legal redemption is only possible as long as the information on the receipt is still legible and has not faded."

The community manager also takes the theft allegation by the Aldi employee at the checkout seriously: "I'm sure nobody wanted to accuse you of anything.

If colleagues have expressed themselves incorrectly, I am very sorry.

Irek promises the Aldi Süd customer that he will forward his complaint so that his colleagues can "correct it accordingly".
