Ethiopia has announced that tomorrow it will start producing electricity from the "Gerd", the maxi-dam on the Nile which will reduce the vital flow of water available to Sudan and Egypt.
This was reported by two officials of the Addis Ababa government.
The structure, called the "Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam" (Gerd, from the acronym in English), is the largest hydroelectric project in Africa and has been at the center of regional friction since Ethiopia opened construction sites in 2011.
Egypt and Sudan in fact consider the dam as an existential threat due to their dependence on the waters of the Nile, while Ethiopia considers it essential for its electrification and economic development.
