GTA 6: Rockstar Game CEO speaks out on controversial marketing trend

What marketing plans has Rockstar Games announced?

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two and thus also the head of Rockstar development, spoke at length in an interview on February 7th about the future plans of the New York company.

He also dropped some information about the announced GTA 6 and gave fans an immense promise.

According to Zelnick, GTA 6 should contain everything that fans have long wanted*.

That's a lot now, after all, fans have been waiting for the next big Grand Theft Auto title for several years.

But Strauss Zelnick also commented on something that fans don't particularly like.

Apparently, Take-Two is toying with the idea of integrating NFTs*.

The New York company would not be the first, after all, gaming companies such as Ubisoft and SEGA have already expressed their interest in non-fungible tokens or even started NFT brands.

In the interview, the Take Two CEO said that he was extremely convinced of NFTs and could very well imagine using them.

Why do fans fear a money rip-off behind it?

This statement worries many fans of GTA 6 and players fear an imminent rip-off.

In one forum, a fan writes that “

no one has asked for NFTs [and] no one likes them.

The user is not wrong, because so far many companies and streamers who have commented positively on NFTs have received a lot of criticism.

SEGA got so much negative feedback that they backtracked from their NFT plans.

Ubisoft also received a lot of criticism after releasing their NFT brand and Twitch* streamer MontanaBlack* also had to deal with a lot of hate after his NFT sweepstakes.

For many fans, NFTs are currently a waste of money.

The use of non-fungible tokens in GTA 6 is therefore a money rip-off for many, as they bring no further benefit.

So far, however, neither Take-Two nor Rockstar Games have expressed concrete plans as to how and if non-fungible tokens will actually be built into GTA 6.

GTA 6: Next Rockstar title could integrate non-fungible tokens

What are NFTs?

But what are these non-fungible tokens anyway?

NFTs are digital data, but they are tamper-proof because they are stored on a blockchain.

The origin and authenticity of the non-fungible token can therefore be viewed and checked by anyone - fraud is virtually impossible.

NFTs can also be viewed as a collectible, with many currently using the crypto art for trading.

Non-fungible tokens are often sold for several hundred thousand euros or even millions.

At the moment, NFTs can be compared more to stock trading.

The market for non-fungible tokens is currently fluctuating heavily, which is why Take-Two is refraining from using it for the time being.

However, in the future, skins and other in-game cosmetic items could also be sold as NFTs.

This could possibly use the purchased skins in other games or as an avatar.

However, that would only be one of many possible uses.
