TURIN - The Archaeological Gallery opens at the Royal Museums of Turin, an unprecedented section dedicated to the civilizations of the ancient Mediterranean: a journey through unique works, accumulated in more than 400 years, thanks to the collection of the House of Savoy but also to the discoveries of scholars, explorers and entrepreneurs.

The spectacular setting, designed by the Tortelli and Frassone studio and created with a complex work started in 2018, displays more than a thousand works in ten rooms, some never exhibited before: finds from Mesopotamia, Greek and Roman statues, Greek pottery, elements Etruscan and Phoenician funeraries.

Materials that make up an extraordinary treasure chest of testimonies received by the Museum of Antiquities in more than four hundred years of history.

A project worth over one million euros,

realized thanks to the resources put in place by the Ministry of Culture which has allocated a total of ten million for the Royal Museums.

"This new exhibition brings to light works of inestimable beauty and historical value.

It is only the beginning of an important rethinking of a path that wants to be more and more homogeneous and able to tell, in a single narration, all the different souls of the Royal Museums "explains Enrica Pagella, director of the Royal Museums." It is a extraordinary museum, the museum of a capital - underlines Massimo Osanna, general director of the Museums for the ministry - with an impressive collection, one of the most important in Italy and Europe.

It is also an inclusive museum, capable of speaking to everyone.

Often museums like this are conceived by archaeologists for archaeologists and are perceived as not very interesting by society. "Among the most iconic works of the Archaeological Gallery, open exactly 450 years after the first Savoy purchases, there is the sculptural portrait of Caesar,

considered by experts to be one of the most similar to the leader, the Assyrian relief of King Sargon II, the large Etruscan sarcophagus dated 280-270 BC of the Matausna, the mosaic of the cantor Orpheus taming the beasts.
