This is not the first time that a snake has come to the Knesset - last May we reported to you here about a snake from the Talum-Kashkashim species of the Za'manim family, which was captured at the Jerusalem Bird Research Station, beaten by the Israeli parliament.

This time, last Friday, members of the Knesset Guard located a

coin

-type snake on a road leading to the Knesset, informed the nearby bird research station, and after a quick capture, the snake was released back into the wild at the Niman Pool in the station area.

Jonathan Ben Aroya, a coin at the Jerusalem Bird Research Station, recalls: "During a group training routine, I received a phone call from Amir Balaban, the station manager, to run to the Knesset Guard and they needed help. I did not understand what it was, To the venomous viper for those who do not know, but is not dangerous at all, we calmed down. "Although they are of enormous importance to the ecosystem," he says.

Coin Rage - Beneficial to Nature and Man

Amir Balavan, director of urban nature at the Society for the Protection of Nature, explains that the Knesset compound and the open spaces are among the most important urban nature sites in central Jerusalem, and so far spurs, hedgehogs and a variety of snakes have been rescued.

Last summer, a young hawk's flower was even extracted there.

In addition, these days, when the weather is getting a little warmer, snakes are starting to wake up and there have been quite a few reports across the country about the appearance of snakes, so the public is required to be vigilant.

According to Balban, most snakes are not dangerous, they are all beneficial to nature and man and the rage of the coins is a classic example - although its model is reminiscent of the viper, it is a beneficial snake that feeds on mice, birds and small reptiles.

Specializes in climbing trees

"The rage can reach a length of about a meter and a half and one of his specialties is climbing trees. This is how he nests birds' nests and can eat eggs as well as young chicks. It is defined as a sub-venomous snake, it has a bit of venom that it injects through chewing, unlike a viper, where its teeth are like venomous syringes

.

We are pleased with the close working relations with the Knesset Guard personnel, who report and assist if necessary.

These are good neighborly relations, "Balban concludes.
