After Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II, 95, was infected with the corona virus, politicians and the media around the world expressed concern about the state of health of the 95-year-old – and expressed their wishes for a recovery.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote: "I am sure that I speak for everyone in wishing Her Majesty a speedy recovery from Covid-19 and a speedy recovery from Covid-19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said they would pray for the Queen.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with you," said Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished a speedy and full recovery on behalf of "millions of Canadians".

As the BBC reports, citing sources close to the Queen, the 95-year-old continues to perform "light duties".

This may include reading government documents.

Queen in the home office

Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday that Elizabeth II had contracted Covid-19 and was suffering from mild symptoms.

According to palace circles, the Queen has been vaccinated several times.

However, British media speculated that given her advanced age, she was being treated with antiviral drugs to reduce the likelihood of a severe course.

Many British newspapers praised the Queen's decision to continue with her duties despite the infection.

"Queen keeps calm and carries on," headlined the "Metro."

The tabloid The Sun drew ridicule with the headline "HRH to WFH," shortened to "Her Royal Highness will be working from home."

What the editors had not considered: The Queen is not referred to as "Royal Highness" but as "Her Majesty" (abbreviated HM).

It is unclear where the Queen got infected.

However, her 73-year-old son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles, canceled an event earlier this month after contracting the coronavirus for the second time.

Insiders had claimed he had met the Queen just days before.
