When should you plant a flower box?
If you can't wait for the beginning of spring, you can
start planting the flower box as early as
February .
However, there are only a few early-blooming flowers that are suitable, such as
grape hyacinth, lentil rose and winter agaric
.
Before you put the young plants planted in the flower box on the balcony or window sill, you should first get them used to the outside temperatures.
Because the flowers are used to heated greenhouses.
It is therefore advisable to initially store the planted flower box in an unheated room, such as the basement or conservatory, and only bring the flowers outside on a sunnier spring day.

March
you can add some color to your balcony or windows with a few plants.

blue cushion, candytuft, golden spurge and pasque flower
.
In your flower box in a sunny location, combine Mediterranean perennials with dwarf spiers, gold hostas and daffodils.
Bergenia, cranesbill and elfin flower also look good in your flower box.
Dwarf sedge, yellow primroses and ranunculus are real eye-catchers in any flower arrangement.
The dwarf Whitsun carnation, rock thyme and violets also get along well.
As well as cushion phlox, Bellis and sun roses and goose cress.
In
shady
places you can plant your flower boxes with black
snake beard, pansies, forget-me-nots and toad
lilies.
Crown anemones, delphiniums and the blue aster also

less sunlight.

You can cultivate these herbs in your flower box
From the beginning of
April
you can plant your flower box with Mediterranean herbs such as
lavender, mint or lemon balm
.
The herbs are considered less sensitive to frost and therefore survive less sunny April weather.
You can also decorate your flower box with sheaf of nutmeg, lady's mantle, mountain mint, iris and crimson scabious, as well as nettle, purple chives, southernwood, feather grass and frost-resistant perennials.
These plants can be planted in flower boxes for autumn as early as spring
Already in April you can
plant autumn flowers
in the flower box.

.
However, it is not hardy and must therefore be stored in a cool place.

nerines
can be cultivated in spring for the fall and overwinter in a warm place.

Optimal size of the flower box
: 30 centimeters wide, 25 centimeters high.
Color and material of the perfect flower box
: light, plastic, you can optionally dress the plastic flower box with a wooden box.
Soil
: fresh potting soil, adapted to each plant.
Drainage
: If necessary, enlarge the holes in the flower box and lay a drainage layer of potsherds or gravel to prevent waterlogging and rot.
Distance between the plants in the flower box
