Quite a few parents heard yesterday (Sunday) with concern the announcement of Abbott, a company that markets Similac products in Israel, that it will return two of its products sold in the country, Elementum and Breastfeeding, following the death of a baby and hospitalization of three more babies after consuming the compounds.



"These products are manufactured at the Sturgis plant in Michigan, USA.

This move follows four individual complaints received from consumers in the US who consumed a powdered formula produced at this plant and related to Cronobacter sakazakii or Salmonella Newport. , "Abbott announced.

What are the dangerous products?

Similac's website states that breast milk enrichment or HMF is "a supplement to enrich breast milk for preterm infants and low birth weight infants."

It was also written that "Similac enriches breast milk is a powder that is added to pumped breast milk, in order to adapt the composition of breast milk to the increased needs of the preterm infant fed breast milk."

And of course finally emphasized that "the use of the recommendation and supervision of a physician or dietitian-nutritionist."



The second product is Similac Gold Elementum with HMO, which is defined as "the only hypoallergenic formula in Israel with the HMO component".

Both of these formulas are given on prescription and are not intended for all infants.
