Did you recover from Corona and register for the Tel Aviv Marathon? This is what you must know

The wave of omicron disease has only just begun to subside, having infected almost everyone who has not been infected so far (and some of those who have) - if you have been in Corona in the last few months, these are the things you need to consider just before settling on the starting line.

It looks like the fifth wave will be behind us soon, and the running season, which brings with it significant annual events, is upon us.

In the run-up to the 2022 Samsung Tel Aviv 2022 marathon, in addition to the usual rules of preparation for strenuous running, there are new highlights (relevant in the last two years) that point to the cautious way to run during an epidemic.

We all know the benefits of exercise in general, and running in particular.

These benefits have not changed and it can be said that new benefits have even been added to them: Athletes who have been in Corona have generally experienced milder symptoms and recovered faster.

Runners - We enjoy running, some of us are even addicted to running, and we all also enjoy the contribution to our physical health and mental health, an issue that continues to gain scientific validity in many and varied studies.

However, in order to minimize the risk of physical injury and to maintain health, it is important to adhere to certain rules of conduct - both in training and in the race.

Do not forget to do antigen the night before the marathon.

There is no doubt that among the runners there are quite a few who fell ill in Corona and recovered - whether they are aware of it or not, and statistically there is no doubt that there will also be runners in the race itself who are "active" Corona patients, even if unaware.

Most runners are not professional runners, so for most of us it is not a competition against others, but a competition together with all the others, and the "competition" is basically a celebration of the victory of each of us against ourselves.

We started with a dream to run a marathon, we continued with a program and training, there were difficulties, challenges and even glitches along the way, but right now we are almost on the starting line.

Tips for running a marathon:

  • Run wisely, while being aware of your current ability at the start.

Set goals that will not harm your health.

Remember that just getting to the starting line is a victory in itself.

  • Planning the run considering the special conditions to be adapted to is of paramount importance, and sticking to the plan while running, without getting carried away with overexertion - is no less important.

  • It is important to understand that Corona healers may be more vulnerable than others to injury, and therefore lower expectations and demands of yourself and thus avoid injury.

Remember that you are running to enjoy - and do not want to get hurt.

  • For those who have recovered from Corona in the week or two before the jump, I recommend considering going down the distance and pace of the run, thus avoiding injury.

Those who still feel immature or are not at their best are better off retiring from the race.

We are all human - and therefore we must remember the limitations of our body, especially during the period of illness and recovery.

  • Active viral disease - even if latent and asymptomatic, can cause muscle damage, heat stroke and even heart muscle damage.

If you do not feel well in the middle of the run - stop and call for help!

Active viral disease can cause damage to muscles, including heart muscle.

More about running:

  • This is what ten minutes of running will do to your health

  • Morning run or evening run - when is it best to go for a run?

  • Loan on better terms from the bank: up to NIS 100,000 and for any purpose

Even a skilled athlete, and perhaps precisely because of being an athlete, can push his body into a dangerous state during illness or recovery.

I personally recommend to every runner, to perform an antigen test on the eve of the run - and if it turns out positive, do not run.

Both to prevent the infection of others, and to protect personal health.

It is also recommended, as far as possible, to stay away from other lecturers while running and reduce the risk of infection.

The risk of infection is real, even for the vaccinated and recovering.

And the risk of injury is even more real when we make physical exertion that is beyond our ability and especially during illness and recovery.

And now for another matter, my little request to you:

As part of the Samsung Tel Aviv Marathon, an important medical study is being conducted by the team of doctors from Ichilov Hospital, which aims to better treat, and even prevent, injuries to runners.

The success of the study depends on the cooperation of the runners, among other things in answering a short questionnaire before the competition.

We ask that everyone who registers for the race (in all allocations) answer the questionnaire in the two weeks before the competition.

Thank you for your cooperation.
