Forget Them At Home: The Movies Everyone Expected To Be At The Oscars Israel today

2022-02-22T06:58:55.993Z

In about a month there will be an Oscar ceremony, but there are some who are disappointed that they will not get to sit in the Dolby Hall in Los Angeles, even though many thought they would do it

In a little over a month, on March 27, the Oscars will take place and mark the Hollywood awards season.

The list of nominees for the awards, published two weeks ago, was not particularly surprising, and yet there were some films and actors who were not included among the nominees, although many thought they deserved to be included there.

One of the most notable of these is director "Wes Chronicle" by director Wes Anderson.

The film, which began filming back in 2018, was scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2020. But then the corona burst, the festival was postponed and distributors waited another year to release the film.

It was finally screened at the Cannes Film Festival last July, but seems to have lost momentum over other major films, which have garnered much coverage and interest among critics.

Anderson's previous film, The Grand Hotel Budapest, won four Oscars in the technical categories in 2014.

The "French Chronicle," on the other hand, is completely absent from the list of candidates.

Another film that they thought would get many nominations is "Hero," by Iranian director Asgar Prahadi.

Some critics thought that Prahadi, who has twice won an Oscar in the international film category (for the films "Farewell" and "The Agent"), this time will also win nominations in the directing category, but this did not happen.

At the American Film Academy this time they forgot about Farhadi, and got excited about films like the Japanese "Mr. Yosuke's Leadership" and the Danish "Escape", which received nominations.

Another film that did not make the list of nominees is "C'mon C'mon" by director Mike Mills.

The black-and-white film, starring Joaquin Phoenix, received excellent reviews, but was not a huge box office success.

Phoenix, who two years ago won the Best Actor award for his role in "The Joker," plays a wandering radio reporter in the film who is accompanied by his nephew, and a special bond is forged between the two.

Another black-and-white drama film that did not receive any nominations at all is "Crossing the Line," which appeared on Netflix, which deals with two black women in New York in the 1920s.

This, though, garnered nominations for the Bafta (British Academy Awards), Indie Spirit and Golden Globe Awards.

Another film that failed to stand out during the ceremonial season is "The Last Duel," the film that united good friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

The two co-wrote the script, as they did in 1997 with "The Story of Will Hunting," then won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay.

On the director's chair sat Ridley Scott, but the film failed at the box office and critics were divided.

There is no third time

Since the list of candidates has been revealed, many Lady Gaga fans have resented on social media that the pop star is absent from the lead actress category for her appearance in the film "Gucci House".

The entire film, which some expected to receive many prestigious nominations, eventually received a single nomination - in the hair styling and makeup category.

Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin,

Another singer left off the list is Jennifer Hudson, who played the character of Aretha Franklin in the biographical film "Respect."

The idea of a film about the life of the Queen of Soul Music was perceived as having potential for the Oscars, but the film did not live up to the task.

Some assumed that the film would garner at least a nomination in the original song category, for a song that Hudson performed and co-wrote, but that did not happen either.

Disappointed actor later this year is Maharsha Ali, who did not make the nominee list this time with his film "The Swan Song", which was streamed on the streaming service Apple TV Plus.

Ali has previously won two Oscars, for the films "Moonlight" and "The Green Book".

Other disappointed were Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage, who was hoping to be nominated for the film "Cyrano," a musical adaptation of a late-19th-century play;

As well as Ben Affleck, who hoped to stand out with a fine acting performance in "The Tender Bar," directed by George Clooney, but the film received rave reviews.
