At 289 grams, one strawberry grown in Israel weighs as much as three bananas.

We know what made the fruit so gigantic.

Tzoran-Kadima/Israel – Chahi Ariel was amazed when he discovered the giant strawberry in his strawberry field in central Israel on February 12th.

Usually, the Israeli farmer is used to fruits of up to 20-50 grams.

The giant berry, weighing almost 300 grams, has now made it into the Guinness Book of Records, as reported by 24garten.de.

Every hobby gardener wishes for a rich strawberry harvest.

But at 289 grams, the world's heaviest berry was found in Israel, as reported by The Times of Israel.

With a length of 18 centimeters and a circumference of 34 centimetres, the stately fruit has already been included in the Guinness Book of Records.

Overall, the record berry is one of three other fruits that were all particularly difficult.

This means that the record specimen is 39 grams heavier than the previous winning fruit from Japan.

Largest strawberry in the world: This is how the record came about

The following circumstances contributed to the fact that the fruit weighed as much as three bananas or two small oranges instead of the average 20 grams:

  • Particularly cool winters in mild growing regions lead to faster and more intensive growth

  • Many strawberries are already formed during growth, which ultimately merge into one large fruit

  • In addition, the soil should be moist, well-drained and slightly acidic

  • The so-called "light mulching" also ensures a rich harvest

  • The more sun, the sweeter the fruits taste

Strawberries are even hardy and should only be covered slightly with fleece in the event of frost.

Even those who do not have their own garden can grow the small red fruits, which botanically belong to the nuts, on the balcony.

If it is on a south side, you have the ideal conditions for a rich harvest with lots of sun and a place protected from snow and rain - but without a guarantee of an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
