The traffic rules in Germany are constantly changing - there are almost always new regulations to be discovered.

It is particularly important to know all current signs.

Are drivers in Germany still allowed to drive quickly through the traffic lights* when they are yellow?

What exactly does the green turn arrow at the traffic light* mean?

Under normal circumstances, the rules in German road traffic are not always fully understood, but when there are rule changes and innovations, some road users are completely confused.

As

* reports, especially new street signs are often unknown.

For example, currently in Stuttgart.

A few weeks ago, a sign appeared on a main road that not only irritated drivers.

It was about the overtaking ban for two-wheelers* - if the road is too narrow and bicycles and mopeds cannot be overtaken with the prescribed minimum distance of 1.5 meters, overtaking is prohibited on certain routes.

Special sign: what motorists and other road users must be aware of

But this rule is not the only one that puts question marks in the faces of many road users - new regulations can also come into force from time to time for parking spaces.

While there is a blatant rule* in the parking areas of discounters like Lidl and some people simply don't know how to set their parking disc correctly, completely new parking regulations and new traffic signs are also appearing here.

Some road users are not yet familiar with this road sign.

What applies when it is set up?

A particular example here is a sign granting certain vehicles the right to park in specific areas.

It is small and white and shows an elongated bicycle with a large basket in front of the handlebars - this is a "cargo bike" or "cargo bike".

These environmentally friendly means of transport are becoming increasingly popular.

They can be found especially in cities, where many now do their shopping by bike or drive the children through the streets.

Special traffic sign: What applies when it comes to parking cargo bikes?

In view of the increased parking fees in the resident parking zones* - also in Baden-Württemberg's cities - cargo bikes are becoming more and more important.

Sometimes the fees don't apply to them at all, although this varies from city to city.

But now there is also a sign that explicitly indicates parking spaces only for cargo bikes.

The "cargo bike" symbol is always placed under a regular "parking lot" sign, signaling that no car is allowed to park here.

This means that knowing the Schil is not only important for cargo bike owners, but also for all other road users.

In general, it is also worth knowing the rule changes for drivers at the turn of the year* and knowing how to read the TÜV sticker correctly*.

Because if the TÜV has expired, drivers face a fine.

It is important to know about the parking rules for cargo bikes: Cargo bikes may be parked on the sidewalk as long as the sidewalk can move freely and there is no obstruction - since they are legally considered to be "normal" bikes.

There should still be about 1.5 m of footpath available.

Cargo bikes can also be parked at the edge of the road as long as the edge is illuminated and the bike is clearly visible - the "cargo bike parking spaces" marked are not the only options for parking such a vehicle.
