A positive corona test does not automatically mean that you are unable to work.
When you have to work from home - and when you can take sick leave.
A corona infection disrupts the everyday life of many employees and their families.
Anyone who holds a positive PCR test in their hands quickly asks themselves: What's next?
Will I receive sick leave and continued wages*?
Or do I have to work from home?
And what about the unvaccinated?
We explain the current status.

Positive corona test: do all employees receive sick leave?
Patients with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection must
immediately go into isolation for several days
– this is what the quarantine for sick people is called.
In the event of symptoms of illness such as cough, runny nose or fever, Covid patients receive a certificate of incapacity for work (AU) from the doctor, as with any other illness.
With this, the continued payment of
wages
for the next six weeks is secured - this also applies to unvaccinated people.
Only in quarantine do unvaccinated people have to forego continued payment of wages.
Even
without symptoms, people who are corona positive can get a sick note from the doctor
– provided you have to leave your home for your work and with it the isolation that has been ordered.
To ensure that employees do not infect anyone on the way to work or at work, the doctor can also write off sick leave for infected people without symptoms in the event of a corona infection.

The situation is different if you are
corona positive without symptoms and you are
able to work
from home during the entire period of isolation
.
In this case, the doctor treating you will not issue a certificate of incapacitation, since you are able to work.
The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVB) points this out in a letter.
Corona positive does not automatically mean being “unable to work”.
Do I have to work during a quarantine?
Anyone who has to be
in quarantine
as a contact person or returning from a trip can apply similar rules to those in isolation.
Again, it depends on whether you are actually infected with the coronavirus or show no signs of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
