Real becomes Kaufland: the next dozen locations go to the competition - an overview

The ailing hypermarket chain Real will soon disappear almost completely from the scene and will largely be taken over by the competition.

Munich – The fate of the ailing hypermarket chain Real goes into the next round.
So far it is clear that numerous branches are going to Kaufland, Edeka or Globus or have already gone, the rest have to close.
The decision has already been made for 227 branches, as Real announced on its website - these are affected.

It is now clear: Kaufland can take over another 13 branches and has thus already been awarded a total of 128 locations.
The Federal Cartel Office gave the go-ahead for the takeover in mid-February and sees no competition law concerns.
Like Lidl, Kaufland belongs to the Schwarz Group.

There were only eight days between the announcement of the intention to take over the Real branches and the approval of the Federal Cartel Office.

Negotiations with Real owners are still pending
However, the takeover does not mean that the branches will be transferred to Kaufland's branch network in the future.
Finally, the trading company has to negotiate the exact conditions with the previous Real owner, the Russian investor group SCP.
He had sold his shares to the Tischenbach family business from Frankfurt, a partner company and law firm specializing in restructuring.
Your goal is to continue the ailing department store chain under its previous name.
Around 60 Real locations across Germany have a future despite the planned liquidation of Real.
This also includes six of the branches that were taken over by the Schwarz Group.
