During the latest wave of Covid-19, cardiology care was reduced to the bone in many hospitals.
Between November 2021 and January 2022, 68% of the structures cut interventions and hospitalizations, 50% decreased diagnostic tests, 45% reduced outpatient visits.
This was denounced by a survey conducted by the Italian Society of Cardiology (Sic), from which the alarm comes: with these numbers "mortality from heart attack and stroke risks returning to the levels of 20 years ago".
Especially since the number of heart patients is destined to increase, because those recovered from Covid are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases.
