Descent of the fourth wave does not mean endemic circulation of the virus nor, much less, the end of the pandemic

. Regardless of the end of the state of emergency, it is currently impossible to abolish public health measures

such as indoor masks and isolation of positives

, essential to allow complete reopening of all activities ".

This is the alert from the president of the Gimbe Foundation, Nino Cartabellotta, who underlines: "With 50,000 new cases a day, a positive rate of swabs at 10% and almost 1.3 million cases currently positive, the circulation of the virus is still quite high ".

The new cases of Covid-19 recorded in Italy have been decreasing for four weeks, but the decline - observes Gimbe -

sees a slowdown over the last week

: from 16 to 22 February they were 349,122 with a -20.6%, compared to -32% the previous week.

The decline went hand in hand with a further reduction in the total swabs performed (-19.6%).

In the same period of time, in all the Regions there is a percentage reduction of new cases: from -0.5% in Calabria to -35.9% in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The pressure of the Covid-19 epidemic on hospitals continues to drop steadily

.

In the last 7 days - the institute notes - both the trend of reduction of beds occupied by Covid patients in medical departments (-16.2%), and of the reduction of intensive care places (-19, 9%).

Deaths due to Sars-Cov-2 also continue to decline with a stable trend: they were 1,828, equal to -15.8% compared to the previous week.

From 9 to 15 February there was -14.9% hospitalized in the medical area, -18.7% in intensive care and -16% deaths.

In the last 7 days only 59 thousand new vaccinated:

the collapse in the over 50s (-44%) and in the 5-11 range (-57.1%) is confirmed, in the week 16-22 February.

4.9 million people without even a single dose can be vaccinated immediately and 2.17 million recovered are protected only temporarily.

This is what emerges from the Foundation's independent monitoring.

For third doses the coverage rate is 84.9% with clear regional differences.

"The efficacy of three doses of the vaccine against severe disease remains high."

In Italy, the percentage of beds in intensive care occupied by patients with Covid-19 remains at 9%

.
