(ANSA) - TRIPOLI, FEBRUARY 24 - The Libyan prime minister designated by the Parliament, Fathi Bashagha, has announced that he has completed the formation of his government, whose composition will be sent to the deputies for a vote of confidence.
"The composition of the government is ready and will be forwarded to the House of Representatives," Bashagha's press office said in a statement.
The premier is opposed to the one in office, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah.
To form his government, the influential former Minister of the Interior conducted "in-depth consultations with all political parties, the Parliament and the Supreme Council of State, and examined numerous proposals according to criteria of competence and efficiency", the statement said.
Already plagued by divisions between competing institutions to the east and west, Libya recently found itself with two rival prime ministers in Tripoli after missing the crucial December election deadline.
In fact, on February 10, the Parliament installed in the east appointed Bashagha to replace Dbeibah at the head of the interim government.
However, the premier in office assures that he will only hand over power to an elected executive.
In addition to the replacement of Dbeibah, the deputies approved a new political roadmap that must lead to presidential elections at the latest in 14 months.
The Bashaghanon cabinet has indicated when it will hold the Parliament's confidence vote, but the Parliament has called a meeting for Monday without specifying the agenda.
