(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 24 - The Russian army is one of the largest in the world and it will be a difficult fight, but the Ukrainians "will fight for our future, they will fight for our children".
The mayor of Kiev, former heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko told the BBC.
The mayor explained that the citizens of Kiev were shocked to hear the explosions in the city.
"I'm not afraid for me, I'm a fighter," he said, admitting however that he is worried about the three million people he is responsible for living in Kiev.
Klitschko called for Western unity to help Ukraine.
Our goal, he explained, is to build a modern and democratic country and to be "part of the European family".
