Trouble at Telekom: the company names the cause and apologizes

At Telekom there are failures across Germany on Tuesday.

The Internet and the mobile network are affected.

Now the group is giving an update.

Update from Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022, 9:00 a.m.:

Deutsche Telekom fixed the nationwide disruptions in the mobile network on Tuesday (February 22nd, 2022), as dpa announced.

"Mobile telephony via LTE is working again," the company announced on Twitter.

The group also apologized to its customers: "Today we did not live up to our own standards.

We apologize for the inconvenience.” An error in the “Voice-over-LTE” function was the reason for the outage.

Depending on the smartphone model, customers were affected differently by the problem.

Malfunctions in Telekom's mobile network: the company names the cause

Update from Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022, 7.46 p.m .:

The nationwide disruptions to the internet and mobile communications continue.

As Telekom announced in a Twitter post around 7:30 p.m., the cause of the failures is now clear.

"The reason is a bug with Voice-over-LTE.

Our tip: With iOS, the call setup works automatically after around 20 seconds and the iPhone jumps into the 2G network,” writes the “Telekom Helps” account.

For the Android operating system, the group points to instructions with which Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) can be deactivated.

As Telekom writes on its website, the impairments are due to storm damage affecting the overhead lines.

"That's why the forces from all over Germany have been pulled together to eliminate the damage and we're working flat out to fix the disruptions," it says.

However, this may take longer in some regions than in others.

"We ask our customers for a little patience and understanding at this point," writes the group.

Germany-wide disruption at Telekom - Internet and mobile communications affected

First report from Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022, 3:50 p.m.:

Kassel – There is currently a large-scale disruption at Telekom*.

Numerous users report several problems.

The number of reported disruptions has risen sharply since 12 p.m.: On Tuesday afternoon (02/22/2022), more and more users were complaining about internet problems and disruptions in telephone connections.

The website allestoerungen.de reported around 1.30 p.m. around 6000 reports of failures or disrupted reception.

Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart are particularly affected.

After 2 p.m., Telekom finally reported the disruption on Twitter.

“Currently there are occasional impairments in incoming and outgoing mobile phone calls via LTE (Voice-over-LTE), as well as in SMS and mobile voice mail.

GSM telephony via 2G is not affected,” the post says.

Most recently, the Telekom service team tweeted on February 17 that the storm damage had not yet been repaired and that this was continuing.

However, it is unclear whether there is a connection with today's disturbances.

Numerous Telekom customers are even threatened with termination in the near future*.
