(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 24 - Fights between Russian and Ukrainian forces are also underway in the disarmed Chernobyl nuclear power plant: this was reported by an adviser to the interior minister of Kiev quoted by Nbc.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry confirmed the fighting in Chernobyl, and specified that the waste storage facilities are currently intact, although in danger of being destroyed.
"Fights are underway near the Chernobyl nuclear waste repository. Russian forces have advanced from Belarus," said Interior Minister advisor Anton Guerachtchenko.
The Ukrainian National Guard "is putting up strong resistance," he added.
