Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the escalation of the security situation, officials in Ukraine have called on the European Broadcasting Organization to remove Russia's candidacy from the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, according to a website wiwibloggs covering the poetry contest.
In an appeal to the European Broadcasting Union, the Ukrainian Public Broadcasting Union claimed that in its actions Russia was violating international law, and therefore its membership in the union should be denied and it should be banned from participating in the popular poetry competition.

A statement from the organizers of the competition following the publication of the demand for a boycott of Russia stated that the Eurovision Song Contest is a cultural event with an apolitical tone, designed to unite bio-countries and celebrate diversity through music.
They added that members of the Public Broadcasting Organization in Russia and Ukraine alike have pledged to take part in the competition to be held in Turin Italy this year, and that they plan to welcome the artists from both countries to the competition in May, while of course continuing to follow developments in the region.
