Do corona vaccines actually weaken our immune system?

It's no secret that the corona caused quite a few diseases to come down from the front of the stage.

An Israeli study from Ben-Gurion University examined and found that surprisingly, despite the corona and perhaps because of it, there is actually an increase in other respiratory diseases.

Does this mean that our immune system is weakened?

Now that the fifth wave is behind us and most of the restrictions have been lifted, it may not surprise you that the various restrictions in dealing with the Corona virus have significantly affected the extent of morbidity in Israel - while their removal has probably intensified Corona morbidity and other diseases.

Dr. Shimon Amar and doctoral student Tal Michael, researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, examined the incidence of non-Corona infectious diseases before the outbreak of the virus, during the various restrictions and in the period after vaccinations and closures.

The study, which followed the infectious morbidity of 386,711 patients for about four years, examined the rates of infectious morbidity in infectious diseases of the respiratory tract.

The study yielded a worrying figure first described in the study literature: Since the closures were released and after the massive vaccination campaign, there has been a 2.64-fold increase in the diagnosis of non-coronary and abdominal diseases in children aged 0-3 compared to the same period before the virus broke out.

A significant increase of 1.74 times was also found among all ages.

In an attempt to trace the cause of the significant increase in morbidity, viruses were sampled from patients who were hospitalized at Soroka Medical-University Center.

The samples showed a significant increase in the rates of the metapneumovirus virus - which attacks the upper respiratory tract - compared to previous years in which its rates were significantly lower.

Moreover, similar to last summer in the world in general and in Israel in particular - there has been a significant increase in respiratory morbidity rates caused by the RSV virus - the most common cause of respiratory infections among children up to two years of age.

"The increase in infectious disease among all sections of the population, and young children in particular, raises many questions about possible changes in our immune system," added doctoral student Tal Michael.

"From the research data it can be concluded that the astonishing effects of simple measures such as masking and social distance on reducing infectious morbidity should be added to the basket of policy considerations, while remembering that these measures also have question marks, and may affect our immune system upon removal."
