Police officers sometimes encounter amazing things in their everyday work: On Saturday, police forces in Freiburg picked up a drunk man who had allegedly been on a scooter shortly before - with almost three per thousand.
According to a witness report, the man on the scooter was struck while driving.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Europaplatz in Freiburg.
A witness who claims to have observed the 59-year-old on his journey notified the police.
When the police arrived, the man was “alcoholized by approximately three per thousand,” according to the press release from the Freiburg police headquarters.
Because of the suspicion of drunk driving, a blood sample was taken.
Such a study can be used to more accurately determine the amount of alcohol someone has consumed.
A blood alcohol concentration of three per mille can be life-threatening: the reflexes stop, there is a risk of unconsciousness.
Did the man only drink after dismounting?
However, even if the blood test reveals significant intoxication, it is not proven that the man was already drunk on the scooter.
According to what is known so far, he drove up to the bike racks in front of the local youth welfare office in the afternoon on a scooter.
However, it is at least conceivable that the man only started consuming alcohol after getting off the vehicle and that he had a permitted alcohol level while driving.

The police are therefore now asking for information – in order to “determine the suspect’s driver status”, as the police headquarters put it.
Witnesses who noticed a green scooter between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. should please get in touch.
Anyone who remembers the driver should also be addressed: the man was "quite corpulent" and was around 1.85 to 1.90 meters tall.
He was wearing a gray jacket and a black hard hat.
The Freiburg-Nord police station accepts information around the clock.
