A witness put the police on the trail of a large cannabis plantation in Güsten in the Salzland district.
After a tip, the investigators discovered the professionally operated plantation with more than 1000 plants on Saturday morning in a house, as the police announced on Sunday in Magdeburg.
A man initially fled, but was then discovered by a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera under a tarpaulin.
The arrested 49-year-old was reportedly already wanted on an arrest warrant.
The cannabis plants were secured by the Technical Relief Agency.
35 men and women from the local groups in Magdeburg and Stassfurt were deployed.
The investigation was ongoing, it said.
