The 4 good reasons to wash with solid soap
- To preserve your
health
: shower gels very often contain ingredients that are allergenic, endocrine disruptors and possibly carcinogenic (synthetic surfactants, parabens, etc.). On the other hand, the formula of solid soap is much shorter and often natural, especially if it is labeled organic or Slow Cosmetics.
To
save money
when you buy a soap you only pay for the soap.
On the other hand, water constitutes the major part of the shower gel!
A solid soap will thus replace several bottles and you will be a winner in the long run.
- To reduce waste: the
plastic bottles
of shower gels are made from petroleum and their manufacture is very polluting.
Once thrown away, they are not necessarily as well recycled as we would like.
They are often incinerated or end up in nature!
On the other hand, what could be more
zero waste
than a soap with little or no packaging at all.
You can even buy it by the slice.
The impact related to its transport will also be considerably reduced.
- To stem
water pollution
: solid soaps, if you choose them organic and natural, are
biodegradable
, unlike chemical shower gels which release multiple pollutants into wastewater.
To also reduce your water consumption, which is so precious, also consult our selection of ecological shower heads.
Choose a soap adapted to your skin
Shower gels leave a greasy film on the skin and give it a false impression of softness.
The solid soap, without chemicals, can on the other hand sometimes leave an impression of dry skin after the shower.
Unless specified otherwise by the manufacturer, it is rather inadvisable to use soap on the face, just like shower gel for that matter.
The epidermis is particularly sensitive and fragile.
Some manufacturers of solid cosmetics also offer organic and solid face cleansers.
However, there are
solid moisturizing soaps
that can be used as face soap if your skin is not too fragile:
- So-called “
surgras
” soaps, composed of shea butter, sweet almond or coconut oil;
- Soaps made by
cold saponification.
This artisanal technique takes longer than hot saponification, but it is less energy-intensive.
It preserves the properties of the vegetable oils and butters used and therefore leaves a
moisturizing veil on the skin
.
Finally, some soaps contain
essential oils
, with multiple properties, but which should not be used on children and pregnant women.
After use, let your bar soap dry in the open air, then store it in a closed box, a soap dish or a small cloth bag.
Only imperatives: do not leave it lying around the edge of the bathtub and prevent your children from letting it melt at the bottom of the bath!
