In Germany, the price of fuel has reached a new record.

Refueling has never been more expensive than in February.

Kassel – The prices for fuel and diesel continue to climb in Germany.

The Ukraine war caused new record prices at gas stations in February.

Both Super E10 and Diesel reached record levels at the end of the month, as the ADAC announced on Tuesday (03/01/2022).

The monthly average fuel prices also reached unprecedented levels.

The price of petrol rose by 7.2 cents to 1.742 euros compared to the previous month.

The price of diesel increased by 6.6 cents to an average of 1.662 euros.

According to the ADAC, the last day of February was the most expensive day of the month - and at the same time "the most expensive day of all time" for filling up.

The Super E10 reached an average price of 1.816 euros, a liter of diesel cost an average of 1.737 euros.

Already at the beginning of February, prices for refueling had reached new record highs.

Price shock at the gas station: Ukraine war drives prices up

The reason for the high prices is the Ukraine conflict*.

According to the ADAC, the war led to new highs on the international raw materials markets.

The price for a barrel of Brent crude oil recently fluctuated around 100 US dollars (89.52 euros).

Just three months ago, the price for a barrel was around 70 US dollars.

In view of the high fuel prices, the ADAC calls for relief for drivers.

The increase in the tax commuter allowance of 38 cents should apply from the first kilometer in the future.

Currently, the flat rate is only calculated from the 21st kilometer.

The government decided to raise the fee to 38 cents retrospectively for 2022, but the Bundestag and Bundesrat still have to agree.

Up to the 20th kilometer the flat rate is currently 30 cents.

The ADAC also advised motorists to make greater use of the price fluctuations at petrol stations.
