The district court in Munich has sentenced a 35-year-old to a fine of 2,500 euros – 50 daily rates of 50 euros – for incitement to hatred.
The man had published a picture of the entrance gate to a concentration camp on his Facebook account, with the lettering above the entrance gate being replaced by the words "Vaccination sets you free," as the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed to SPIEGEL on Wednesday.
The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported.
The accused "wanted to express his displeasure with the government measures to contain the Covid 19 pandemic and suggested that these measures were comparable to the murderous persecution of Jews".
According to the information, the picture was freely accessible.
