It's hard to believe maybe, but until recently the kids' vaccination against Corona caused quite a bit of anger, intimidation and a lot of apprehension.

Now that it has been tested on tens of millions of children worldwide it can be said to be safe, but is it also effective?

A study published this week based on data from the U.S. found that corona vaccines given in two doses of Pfizer provided very little protection for children ages 5 to 11 during the Omicron wave

. 12 percent for children in this age group during the rise of the omicron from December 13 to January 24. Inpatient protection dropped from 100 percent to 24 percent in January. , The data sounds reliable.

The researchers who conducted the study said that the dramatic decrease in vaccine effectiveness among children aged 5 to 11 is probably due to the low dose they received.

Children in this age group receive two injections of 10 micrograms, while children aged 12 to 17 receive injections of 30 micrograms.

The researchers also compared 11- and 12-year-olds during one specific weekend that ended Jan. 30.

They found that vaccine efficacy dropped to 11 percent in the low-dose group, but offered 67 percent protection to the group that received the higher dose.

"Given the rapid loss of protection against the virus, these results highlight the continuing importance of additional layers of protection, including masking, for children to prevent infection and infection," public health officials wrote in the study.

For children aged 12 to 17 years, the effectiveness of the vaccine against infection dropped from 66 percent to 51 percent from December to the end of January.

Protection against hospitalization dropped from 85 percent to 73 percent among teens in the same period.

The data comes as New York City and other U.S. states plan to end the obligation to wear masks at school by March 7.

All over the world there has been a significant jump in pediatric morbidity and hospitalization in the fifth wave of the Corona.

This is one of the reasons the Food and Drug Administration this month asked to quickly monitor Pfizer's vaccine for children aged six months to four.

However, the FDA and Pfizer decided to suspend these programs after the data on the first two doses did not live up to expectations.

The FDA is now waiting to see data from clinical trials on a third dose for the youngest children, expected in April.
