PS Plus: Details of Sony's own Game Pass known

Sony wants to expand PlayStation Plus: There could soon be a kind of Game Pass for PS4 and PS5.

Similar to Xbox Game Pass, there will soon be a Sony subscription for PS4 and PS5.
Now there are first indications of how much the subscription should cost.

As early as December 2021, these efforts – which Sony internally calls “Spartacus” – were reported by the
Bloomberg
news agency , citing insiders.

more information on what these new offerings look like.
Spartacus is an evolution of PlayStation Plus with
three subscription models
.
Currently, these tiers are called Essential, Extra, and Premium - although these names may change between now and the launch of the service.
Monthly subscriptions start at $10 and go up to $16.

PS+ Essential
is the PS+ you already know.
For $10 a month, you get games monthly to add to your library.
It works on a similar principle as it does today.
PS+ Extra
gives you the monthly games and a games catalog for $13 per month.
The Games Catalog is a library of hundreds of legacy downloadable games currently available on PS Now.
With
PS+ Premium
, you get all the features of the other two plus a little more for $16 a month.
This also includes PS Now streaming capabilities.
You also get a library of "classic games" as well as a new "Trials" feature.
Trials allow you to download and play the full versions of new PlayStation* games.
This likely has a time limit feature similar to how playtests work on Electronic Arts' EA Play service.

According to Venturebeat
, the names and prices of the game service are subject to change
before the release.
These features would make PS Plus look a whole lot stronger compared to Xbox Game Pass.
While Sony won't be bringing full versions of its blockbuster games to PS Plus on day one,
trial versions
will at least allow a larger audience to try out these games.
Sony is going into a
test phase for Spartacus
in the next few weeks .
Details of the new membership program could be announced as early as March.
