Il Nerone

, but in a new version imagined by Vincent Dumestre, founder of Poème harmonique.

The idea?

Trying to find what the edition given in Paris in 1647 looked like in a small room and an intimate format.

That, precisely, of the Théâtre de l'Athénée, definitely a real gem where chamber opera has flourished for years.

With the talent of archaeologists who bring the remains back to life instead of leaving them as traces, Dumestre has cut the sublime final duo, which there is every probability that it is not by Monteverdi's hand, to reinject its musical material in the middle of the opera, reconstructing an unfortunately lost scene: thus, one is not frustrated musically, and the theatrical coherence seems much more logical, making the unique loving embrace between the two lovers the pivot of the opera.
