Tables laden with small saucers, ouzo poured into glasses, pastries stuffed with cheese alongside mozzarella, and lamb dishes served to the sounds of Greek music - restaurateur Zviki Eshet was probably not the first to understand that Greek food culture simply settles on the local audience, big time.

Since opening the first Greco restaurant in the Chen areas of Tel Aviv nine years ago, Eshet has not rested for a moment and Greco has almost become synonymous with Greek food in the country.

Over the years, additional restaurants have also opened in Herzliya and recently in Kfar Saba.

Less than a year ago, at the height of the Corona epidemic, Eshet decided that we in Israel should also enjoy a Greek tavern on the Mediterranean coast and opened an entire complex on Frishman Beach in Tel Aviv that also includes an ice cream parlor, deli and a place where you can fill Greek pita with gyros and sit with your feet in the sand.

But Eshet, is a restaurant with a great hunger and if it is possible to bring from the Mediterranean islands the taverns, music and food, why not bring the whole Greek street?

This week, next to the old Greco restaurant in Azorei Chen, in the space that once housed the Greenberg restaurant (another Eshet restaurant that closed during the Corona) opened a Greek food market complex.

In the new and designed entertainment complex, Eshet wants you to enjoy the entire Greek experience.

At the new Greek bakery in the complex, you can stock up on traditional pastries baked daily, such as breads, Greek pitas, sweet and savory pastries such as Koulouri - a Greek bagel that comes in a variety of fillings or the bogacha - a filo pastry filled with cheese and semolina and many other sweets.

You can order a cup of coffee brewed in finjan on hot sand in the traditional method alongside fresh locomotives, the same fried and golden dough hoops are served with sweet sauces or Dakos - open sandwiches in Greek style with lots of olive oil, oregano and a variety of excellent toppings.

But this is just the beginning.

Greco also has a deli that offers cheeses imported from Greece, pickled fish, cooked dishes to take home, salads, stuffings and also frozen dishes that can be bought and baked or grilled at home.

The shelves and straw baskets are filled not only with quality raw materials like olive oils, wines, olives, oregano from Greece or dried mountain tea plant branches, but also Greek serving and cooking utensils, tablecloths and even Greek-inspired clothing with blue and white dominating everything.

Outside, intimate Greek-style seating areas await you, covered with traditional paper tablecloths just like in Greece.

Unlike Greco which is a family restaurant in the style of taverns, in the new Ozeri you can enjoy new and smaller dishes, created by the group's chef Eliav Goldenberg adapted to accompany the alcohol poured into glasses.

And make no mistake about it, not only ouzo is here, but also refreshing cocktails and a rich wine menu accompany the food.

And if you think you're content with that for now, you probably do not yet understand who you are dealing with.

This summer, he promises, he will open in Eilat on the Royal Beach and in cooperation with the Isrotel hotel chain, the Eilat Greco with a Greek food complex similar to the one on the beach in Tel Aviv.

Later, the retreat hotel he is planning to open on the island of Kaa, located about an hour from Athens, will be opened and will include workshops and chef meals.

Hundreds of olive trees have already been planted on the island, Eshet says, which will very soon be turned into olive oil to be sold in the new Greco complex, as well as vines that need some more time before they can be fortified so that he can produce his own wine.

In short, there is something to look forward to.

And until we get to Greece, he brought us here.

Greco Greek Food Market, Aquarius and Ozri, Uri Zvi Greenberg 25 Tel Aviv, opening hours during the run 08: 00-19: 00 (starting in two more weeks, the complex will operate until 23:00), 03-670-3626
