(ANSA) - MILAN, 07 MAR - Epic Games, video game giant and publisher of the popular video game Fortnite, has suspended sales through its digital store in Russia.
This is the umpteenth response from the tech giants to Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
In recent days, Meta, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Paypal, just to name a few, had taken countermeasures to block their products and services in the country.
In the last few hours, Samsung has also added to the list.
With the decision of Epic Games, Russian users will be able to access free video games, the contents of the Epic GamesStore and Fortnite, but without making purchases.
The policy applies to video games themselves, or to the possible cost of a title for its possession, and to in-game purchases, the micro-transactions within the games.
"Epic has decided to stop trading with Russia in its games in response to the invasion of Ukraine - the company said on Twitter - We will not block access to services for the same reason other communication systems remain online: the free world. it should keep all possibilities for dialogue open ".
In the video game sector, Epic Games aligns with similar decisions already made by Electronic Arts, ActivisionBlizzard, Intel, Amd and Nvidia,
to partially censor the presence of securities in the Russian borders, acting with small positions in certain cases.
For example, EA Games has removed Russian squads from its popular Fifa and Nba games, while Microsoft has suspended all new sales in Russia, including Minecraft, which has been removed from Google's Play Store and Apple's App Store.
