Federal police investigators have arrested a suspected million-dollar fraudster at Frankfurt Airport.

The US judicial authorities had been looking for the man via Interpol since October 2018 with an international arrest warrant, the Federal Police Directorate said.

The 48-year-old Canadian is said to have cheated around 1,400 people in the United States out of a total of more than 1.2 million euros with false bills between 2008 and 2015.

The man founded fictitious companies and sent false invoices for advertising services that were never provided.

He then threatened the alleged debtors with collection notices and harassed them by phone.

When he was arrested on Monday, the man had landed in Frankfurt am Main on his way from Montreal in Canada to Sofia in Bulgaria.

The suspect is now in extradition custody.

According to federal police, he faces up to 25 years in prison in the United States.
