Who would have believed: The docu-movie about Joan Collins turns her into a feminist icon | Israel today

In a career that has lasted for several decades, the actress who will forever be remembered as Alexis from "Dynasty", became a superstar - when at no point was she afraid to talk about the sexual violence she experienced over the years • The documentary about her not only raises a difficult topic Intelligent that does not miracle phlegm

More than 4 years have passed since the MeToo movement burst into our lives, and the world seems to have changed greatly.

Awareness of sexual violence on a variety of issues has risen miraculously, and today many women, and of course men, also talk and talk about it at a certain level of openness, who more and who less.

The world has come a very long way until we have reached where we are now, and we have not yet finished walking the same path.

Someone who was not afraid to talk about this subject is the actress Joan Collins, who is best known for her portrayal of Alexis from "Dynasty," one of the most iconic female characters ever seen on the television screen.

In a new documentary about her, "Get Joan Collins", which airs today (Tuesday) on yes docu and also airs on HOT8 on the occasion of Women's Day, the beloved actress, who will celebrate her 89th birthday in about two months, tells viewers the story of her life - From her childhood and falling in love on stage, through becoming a global superstar, to becoming an adult woman who did not miraculously pass.

She does all this against the backdrop of her archive footage, including previously unseen home films, which she is accompanied by the stinging narration that has always characterized her.

A gifted and sarcastic narrator.

Collins from "Get Joan Collins",

Despite the light-hearted tone in which the film is made, directed by Claire Bivan, the themes in it are by no means simple.

The lovable Collins tells of a rape committed by her first partner (actor Maxwell Reed), sexual assaults she experienced early in her acting career, and the treatment she received from everyone around her in general and the media in particular, just by being a beautiful girl.

The veteran actress does not stop at any sign.

For decades she had talked about sexual violence and feminism, without hiding the fact that if she had agreed to the sexual offers she had received over the years - it is possible that her status as an actress could have been even greater.

Here, in fact, Collins "opens" on everything that is wrong in her eyes in the entertainment industry in general and in Hollywood in particular - and this against the background of her personal experiences - which unfortunately are also experiences of quite a few other women around the world.

Just because she was beautiful.

The film gives a glimpse into who was a beginning and unfamiliar actress - who later in her career starred in movies and series alongside some huge names (such as Paul Newman, Richard Burton and Gregory Peck) - grows up, and goes through things that are not simple at all, V ", as if to say:" I have dealt with a lot of poison in my life - and I have chosen to continue with them. "

And yet, despite her very impressive career, Collins will probably be remembered forever as the same Alexis from "Dynasty."

This is not a bad thing, as the relatively light-hearted spirit of the film (mostly thanks to the charming and super-intelligent Collins), raises in a rather subversive and sophisticated way issues that probably none of the viewers thought would stand up to a successful 80s soap opera star.

"This is Joan Collins" presents sides that many probably did not know about the star, and gives us a surprising and refreshing perspective on her.

This is a rather fascinating document about women in Hollywood and the sexual violence they experience, and it conveys its important messages in a pleasant and sweeping way, one that in the end it is impossible not to have a discussion on this important issue - and all this while making Joan Collins a feminist icon. We did not consider her one.
