Musician and Nobel Prize winner for literature Bob Dylan has written a new book.
"The Philosophy of Modern Song" is to be released on November 8th, according to the publisher Simon & Schuster.
This is Dylan's first publication of new writing since 2004's Chronicles, Volume One.
The Philosophy of Modern Song is a collection of more than 60 essays on the art of songwriting that Dylan has been working on since 2010.
The musician writes about various songs by other artists, from Stephen Foster to Elvis Costello, about Hank Williams or Nina Simone.
Dylan analyzes how "the addition of a single syllable can degrade a song," the release reads.
Dylan also explains "how bluegrass is related to heavy metal".
In Germany, the book is to be published at the same time by Verlag CH Beck.
With songs like "Blowin' In The Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'," Dylan is one of the most successful musicians of his generation.
In 2016 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
In his memoirs »Chronicles, Volume One«, Dylan writes about various stages in his career from 1961 to 1989. The book was announced in 2004 as the first title in a three-part series.
A sequel has not yet been released.
