The n.2 of world tennis, the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, announced her forfeit at the tournament in Indian Wells (USA), due to a pain in her arm.
"I was really looking forward to playing Indian Wells, but unfortunately it won't be possible this year," said the US tournament's # 1 seed.
"I have been suffering from intermittent pain in my arm since the Doha tournament, which intensified last night," she said.
"Together with my staff I had to make the very difficult decision to retire."
Frenchwoman Alizé Cornet will take the place of Krejcikova in the main draw.
Krejcikova's retirement adds to the decision of world No. 1, Ashleigh Barty, not to take part in the tournament.
"I hope to be back on the pitch as soon as possible," said the Czech, without specifying when.
