Children is a joy, no doubt, but in the Israel of 2022, the decision to have a child translates into a lot of money.

Ostensibly, the heavy costs amount to financing a private kindergarten, however when one sums up the total expenses, a result is obtained that is very burdensome on the pocket.

How much money is involved?

Over the past month, we have talked to economists who work in the field of family economics and with a number of bodies with a single goal - to reach a number that accurately reflects the costs involved.

For this purpose, a long list of parameters were entered into the data generator, which were processed by professionals in the field of economics and statistics.

All the results are in front of you.

Let's start with the bottom line and resonates: no less than NIS 5,450 a month, or in other words - a disturbed sum of NIS 327,000 - this is the aggregate cost we reached, which faithfully represents all the costs currently involved in raising a child to compulsory kindergarten.

In this context it should be noted and noted that the cost refers to families belonging to the upper class.

Families that are defined according to the CBS as belonging to the middle class - pay a lower amount - "only" NIS 3,916 and in a multi-year calculation - NIS 235,000.

Wipes and diapers are just the beginning.

How did we get to these amounts?

Let's start with food costs.

The wave of price increases in the economy did not, of course, pass over this industry.

Whether it is baby formula or other food - at the end of the month, a couple of parents belonging to the upper class will spend 1,200 shekels a month, and a total for the period - 72,000 shekels. Also when it comes to drugs, diapers, etc. NIS a month and amount to NIS 72,000 in five years, and

we will move on to the most onerous component: care and supervision.

The average cost of a private kindergarten in Israel ranges from NIS 3,100-4,200 per month.

Of course, cheaper solutions can be found in various places in the periphery, but most parents in Israel will pay a disturbed sum ranging from NIS 93,000 to NIS 120,000 in the first five years of a child's life.

In fact, the amount is even higher, because if you include in this calculation the costs of municipal kindergartens (ages 3-5), you get an even more disturbing result - no less than 100,000 shekels, or in case you live in the center - 137,000 shekels.

Yes, you read that right.

Listen, everything here is crazy (Photo: PR)

This did not end the expected monthly expenses, as the child should also be dressed, heated or air-conditioned in the room where he is and purchase toys for him.

All of these, of course, have costs that add up to a total calculation of NIS 31,000-42,000.

And there is another expense, this time one-time, that parents are expected to spend, which stems from the preparation of the room and the house for the arrival of the infant.

The costs, which include

the purchase of a bed, dresser, etc.

- reach NIS 8-12,000, again, depending on your financial situation, or more precisely on your preferences and worldview.

How do you reduce this crazy amount?

After realizing that the costs are alarmingly high, the question arises - how can one save without it coming at the expense of the quality of care given to the child.

Are all expenses committed to reality?

The answer is no.

There are quite a few wrong decisions that parents make, whose benefit is questionable or they have a negligible financial derivative.

Here are the common mistakes.

Maternity package

The cost of purchasing a maternity package is thousands of shekels, with some of the products you can rent or lend at significantly lower costs.

For example, some of the Yad Sara branches are located in hospitals and allow the new mother to return home with a "birth package", which includes a crib, car seat, a topper (a device to prevent children from forgetting in the car), breast pumps, baby weights, etc.

The loan is given free of charge at Yad Sara branches, the deposit fee of NIS 200 will be refunded upon return of the equipment.

First step shoes and sandals

NIS 250 on average - this is the price that mothers have to pay for the purchase of first or second step shoes and sandals at the beginning of the season in Israel.

Given the fact that at these ages the rate of foot growth forces one to purchase shoes every 3-4 months on average, is there a reason to purchase a shoe at such a high price?

Quite a few orthopedists say that this is an unnecessary expense.

They will learn to walk even without shoes at an exorbitant price.

"It's just an unnecessary expense that increases the cost of growth for no apparent reason," an expert orthopedist tells us.

"Before the purchase, parents should pay attention to three important aspects: whether the product is flexible so that it can be folded easily, whether it is suitable for the occasion and of course its price - is the amount required for it reasonable and does not constitute slaughter.

" A soft EVA that provides maximum comfort in the amount of only NIS 119.90. Are you expensive? You can find even cheaper alternatives, for example: a SOFT BABY baby sandal with an anatomical sole for only NIS 69.90

.

When it comes to toys - there is really no reason to buy them only in Israel.

Today, with the click of a button you can find significantly cheaper alternatives on sites abroad. Even items such as a monitor can be found at extremely low prices. NIS 260-380. One of the disadvantages of such sites is usually the poor quality that results in a short shelf-life of the products.
